Professional Experience

Michael D. Caples concentrates his practice in the areas of Environmental Law and Government Relations.

Michael serves as a member of the Mississippi Hazard Mitigation Council as created by Governor Haley Barbour Executive Order No. 985. He is also a member of the Air and Waste Management Association, and serves on the Environmental Committee of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association. Michael also serves on the Natural Resource, Energy and Environmental Law Section of the Mississippi Bar.

Michael has earned the distinction of The Best Lawyers in America in Government Relations Law, as well as Chambers USA, America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in Environment.

 

Energy, Environment & Natural Resources Experience

Michael Caples is a member of the Public Law and Finance group at Butler Snow where he concentrates his practice in the area of environmental law. Prior to joining Butler Snow, Michael practiced as an environmental attorney for four years and then served as South Central Regional Manager of First Environment, a strategic environmental management consulting firm.

Organizations & Associations

Michael is a member of the Section on Natural Resource, Energy and Environmental Law of The Mississippi Bar, and admitted to the United States District Court and the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. He co-authored and has taught classes on Implementation and Auditing of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.


Education & Awards

Michael graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The University of Mississippi in 1987 where he received the Outstanding Chemical Engineering Award. After working as a technical and a process engineer for four years, he returned to The University of Mississippi and received his J.D. in 1994. Michael served on the Mississippi Law Journal and Moot Court Board.
