Professional Experience
Peter Ellsworth’s practice emphasis is in the areas of State Administration and Litigation, Public Utility Regulation, Hospital and Health Care Regulation, Gaming, Insurance, and more.
Mr. Ellsworth is a member of Municipal Finance, Municipal Law and Energy and Administrative Law Group. He is also a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Michigan Civil Service Commission, the Virginia State Bar Association, and the Ingham County Bar Association. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in State Constitutional Law from 1984 to 1986.
Prominent assignments Mr. Ellsworth has held include: lead counsel for: the Republican Party in legislative and congressional reapportionment litigation; Detroit Downtown Development defending a $50 million state grant for the new Tiger Stadium; City of Detroit in litigation to have 1996 Court Reform Act declared unconstitutional; City of Alma regarding its establishment of a city-owned electric utility; and legal counsel for Engler for Governor. He has also served as special counsel to the University of Michigan Board of Regents regarding its most recent presidential search. Mr. Ellsworth served on the governor’s transition team as well.
