Professional Experience

As a Partner at SGH Martineau, Richard is head of the corporate group, head of the Mergers and Acquisitions Team and a member of the Firm’s Executive Board.  Richard has lead legal teams advising on a large number of acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, buy-ins and buy-outs and private equity funded transactions.

Among the transactions on which Richard has played a leading role are:

• a series of acquisitions and disposals for Footsie 250 company Homeserve plc; including the £20m disposal of the commercial division in 4 separate sales;
• the public offer by Claverley Company for AIM quoted The Guiton Group;
• the reorganisation and sale of a chain of pharmacies valued at £120m;
• a series of acquisitions of brands and engineering and textiles businesses for Harris Watson Group including the Viyella retail chain;
• the £6.5m MBO of Homelux from Newel Rubbermaid;
• a £22m sale of a chain of over 150 convenience stores and CTN’s

Richard has considerable experience of cross border deals with North America, including the acquisition by Homeserve plc of a water pipe policy book from United Water; a $20m joint venture of an international brand and an acquisition for NYSE listed CTI Group Inc
