| Andrew is a senior partner and the head of the firm’s Energy and Projects team. Andrew has been advising on energy sector issues for over 20 years. In recent years he has developed a particular expertise on climate change initiatives, environmental sustainability and decentralised smart energy systems. Andrew’s main specialty is energy law, particularly electricity transmission and gas transportation. He has been advising the Great Britain System Operator on various regulatory and contractual issues concerning system operations since the early 1990s. Andrew has worked on some of the major transition projects in the energy sector in Great Britain over the last decade, including the development of balancing frameworks, the evolution of competition in metering services, and the introduction of EU Network Codes notably to facilitate market coupling across the power interconnectors linking the UK to continental Europe. Andrew’s work also extends to the roll out of electric vehicles and associated infrastructure, where his clients include energy suppliers and charge point infrastructure providers. His practical experience in the climate change arena encompasses advising clients on UK and EU emissions legislation, including emissions trading schemes, as well as advising clients on carbon offset projects including reforestation schemes in South America. Andrew has a long standing reputation as one of the few legal experts in the energy sector, appearing in 2020 Legal 500’s list of leading individuals amongst West Midlands lawyers, and having a top ranking as a leading individual in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame. Andrew also features in Chambers’ national rankings for energy and natural resources (power) lawyers. |
