Jeffrey B. Wagenbach is a partner and co-chair of the environmental group of New Jersey law firm Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti LLP.  In a state noted for its strict and pace-setting environmental legislation, Riker Danzig’s Environmental Law Group is among the largest and most diverse practices of its kind.  Riker Danzig’s environmental clients include individual property owners, real estate developers, lending institutions, and publicly and privately held companies ranging in size from the very small to large multinational Fortune 500 corporations. The group handles matters ranging from hazardous substances, air, water and noise pollution, and solid waste to real estate development, and permitting and counseling.

Mr. Wagenbach’s practice covers a wide variety of areas, focusing on regulatory and transactional matters. He is frequently involved in cost recovery and cleanup liability litigation in both federal and state courts. He has developed a particular expertise in industrial site recovery matters for guiding the process in a way that keeps the business goals in mind while addressing relevant regulatory issues. Recent cases involve complex air permitting and enforcement matters involving overlapping jurisdiction of state and federal regulators.  In addition, Mr. Wagenbach is well known for his work on New Jersey’s unique wetlands and flood hazard programs and how they overlay with the federal program overseen by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Mr. Wagenbach represents Fortune 500 firms and medium-sized companies alike.  Past and present clients include Bristol-Myers Squibb, Organon International Inc., Genzyme Biosurgery, Gerber Plumbing, Odyssey Logistics, and several energy firms and defense contractors. He has also served as New Jersey environmental counsel for a number of New York based law firms.

Since 2005, Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business has included Jeff in its Client's Guide for Environmental Law, calling him "an experienced environmental lawyer" who is "excellent in dealing with the most complex issue" and stating that "his expertise is strongest in industrial site recovery and wetlands cases."

A frequent speaker and author on environmental topics, including underground storage tanks, water and wetlands compliance and permitting, site remediation procedures and requirements, and ISRA, Mr. Wagenbach has been a panelist at briefings presented by Riker Danzig addressing New Jersey’s ISRA legislation and various other environmental topics.

Mr. Wagenbach is an active member of the New Jersey State Bar Association (Environmental Law Section), and the American Bar Association (Natural Resources Section).  He earned his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law, where he was Executive Editor of the Law Review, and his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, with honors in history.
