Matthew H. McKinney is a member of BrownWinick and chairs the firm’s nationally-recognized Government Relations practice group. In addition to a robust and award-winning government relations practice, Matthew is active in the firm’s litigation and data security practice groups. Beyond his daily practice, he frequently works with, and consults on election matters and campaigns as well as writes on numerous business law matters. Finally, in 2019, Matthew was elected to serve on the West Des Moines City Council in the At-Large seat, representing all residences in West Des Moines. Prior to joining BrownWinick in 2010, Matthew worked with Tiffany & Bosco, P.A., in Phoenix, Arizona, on complex litigation matters, including derivative shareholder disputes. Matthew is a former prosecutor, serving the State of Iowa as an Assistant Polk County Attorney under the direction of John P. Sarcone. Matthew is admitted to practice in state courts in the State of Iowa (admitted 2007) and the State of Arizona (admitted 2008). Additionally, he is admitted to practice in Iowa Federal District Court (northern and southern divisions) as well as in Colorado Federal District Court. Matthew is an active member of the Iowa and Polk County Bar Associations; serves as a member of the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce Board and Executive Committee; United Way of Central Iowa Policy Cabinet; BRAVO of Greater Des Moines; and the Metro Advisory Council. He has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers in the area of Government Relations in consecutive years for 2017-2021.
